Biography:

Dr. Espaillat is the Medical Director and Chairman of the Rega Mental Health Center. He is Board-Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Board-Certified in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, and Board-Certified in Advanced Clinical Psychopharmacology by the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology.

He attended the medical school at the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC) where he graduated with the highest honors (Summa Cum Laude), and completed his psychiatry residency training at New York Medical College, Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center. Dr. Espaillat completed a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He also completed a fellowship in Neuropsychiatry at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

Dr. Espaillat’s areas of expertise include Attention-Deficit and Disruptive Behavior Disorders (including ADHD), Tic Disorders (including Tourette’s Disorder), PANDAS, Eating Disorders, and Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDDs including Autism and Asperger’s Disorder). He is currently involved in a research paper about the role of some neurohormones in the development of ADHD symptoms.

Dr. Espaillat has extensive clinical experience in psychiatry and neuropsychiatry, serving as a member of the staff of prestigious hospitals and mental health centers in New York, New Jersey, Chicago, and Florida. He established his own institute of neuroscience in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where he also worked as the EAP Director of the Drug Program for Major League Baseball. Dr. Espaillat belongs to a group of physicians promoting neuroscience in Latin America. .

Currently the Chairman of the Broward Institute of Neuroscience, Dr. Espaillat is a member of the medical staff at University Hospital and Medical Center in Tamarac, Florida, and at Northwest Medical Center in Margate, Florida. He also serves as a national speaker for Novartis Company.

Dr. Espaillat is an active member of the American Psychiatry Association, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, American Neuropsychiatry Association, American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, the Illinois Psychiatry Society and the Florida Psychiatry Society.
